I was happy to stay in a private room for the price but this is not a backpacker hostel
It was a good price, special deal, for a private room and queen-size bed. Once I figured out how to center myself between the braces in the mattress, I slept well. Tomas was welcoming and friendly. Despite the reviews that say the place is dirty, I found it to be clean. I have a fondness for institutional accommodations like this because it's easy to meet close-to-the-street locals and immigrants. For backpackers, this might not be ideal.
I was told on booking that I would be upgraded to a room with a kitchen or kitchenette but that turned out to be false. Walls were very thin and I could hear everyone in the building although most settled down by midnight. Luckily I have a white-noise generator on my phone. Common "kitchen" area was not really a kitchen. No burners or stove, just storage, a table, sinks, and outlets. Security was very bad. Front door could be opened from the outside just by reaching in and lifting a latch. (I was shown this bug by a resident.) Often, reception wasn't even at the desk. The door to my room could be easily forced. There were no lockers. The morning receptionist didn't speak and didn't take his eyes off his phone once. If you're looking for a typical backpacker hostel experience, this isn't it.

Disappointing
The staff was very friendly and the location is very good, two subway stations nearby and a bus stop right in front of it.
I am very sorry to say that it is impossible to rest here despite the fact it is a good value. Too noisy, people coming in and out early in the morning won't let you sleep. There was no privacy at all, everything could be heard from all the rooms around.
